about us
Hello
Hi, we're Ohel Moed, sometimes known as OhMo. We're a community of Halachic, egalitarian Jews, affiliated with Masorti Judaism in the UK.
We are a grassroots community that currently offers festival events, Shabbat services and learning and social opportunities.
We would be delighted for you to join us at one of our events!
We are based in North West London.
What is MAsorti Judaism
Masorti comes from the Hebrew word for ‘tradition’. Our aim is a living and relevant Judaism. Masorti Judaism places great value on the wealth of Jewish history and tradition. We try to retain beliefs and practices while adapting them to the modern world. Masorti Judaism supports a flourishing network of communities where people can find meaning by connecting to Judaism and to each other.
Rav Yael Jaffe
Community Organiser and Educator
R. Yael works with Ohel Moed as an organiser, educator, and pastoral presence, supporting the community to thrive and grow. When she is not with Ohel Moed, R. Yael serves as a rabbi at New North London Synagogue.
R. Yael received semichah (ordination) from the Hadar Institute, a halachic-egalitarian yeshiva in New York. Originally from South Florida, she graduated from Brandeis University with a BA in Judaic Studies and Gender Studies, and has previously studied at Midreshet Lindenbaum, Drisha, Pardes, and the Hartman Institute. R. Yael has participated in several fellowships focused on community organising and innovation, and she has taught Torah and led tefillah in a variety of communities across the US and UK. R. Yael lives in Finchely with her husband BZ Gilinsky, where she is privileged to host Ohel Moed for Kabbalat Shabbat and dinner on a monthly basis.
